For hundreds of years, the Jewish people waited in silence for God to fulfill his promises--promises of a future kingdom and a future king. For centuries, Israel had been oppressed by foreign nations and had no kingdom worth speaking about. They had been occupied by Babylonians, Greeks, and Romans. For many, it seemed as if God had abandoned them. But he hadn't. With the opening chapters of Matthew, we see how God was faithful to fulfill his promises. After hundreds of years of waiting, God finally sent his promised king who came to establish his kingdom. But his kingdom would be much bigger than Israel. It would reach to the ends of the earth.
November 30 — The Genealogical Fulfillment (Matthew 1:1-17)

In this message we will consider the genealogy of Jesus. While many people find genealogies boring, we will see that this genealogy is packed with significance. It traces not only the lineage of Jesus, but it also declares, in not so subtle ways, that Jesus is the long awaited Davidic King—a king who would rule not only over Israel, but also over the nations.

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” Galatians 4:4–5
This year we will celebrate the amazing gift of being adopted into the family of God. Once strangers, now siblings. Once slaves, now sons and daughters. Once lost in error, now heirs of the king. It’s because of God’s great gift that all of us can be home for Christmas
